Terror in the Trees takes place at Beamish Hall Country House Hotel. Pulling up into the car park I found the signage a little unclear but made my way to the right of the hotel and around the side to an adventure playground and toward a well lit ticket booth. Once checked in I was told to return 5 minutes before my allotted time and to head over to the food and drink offerings. This was an atmospheric area that would have a good vibe later in the evening as more groups turn up. You had a number of food options along with a bar. A few fire pits dotted around and roaming hillbilly characters providing light scares and comic relief.

The Experience

Onto the batching area we were the first group of the evening. We were given the usual safety spiel and taken into an introduction room. This was a nice touch but I felt the sound on the video could have been better. The actor did a good job of unsettling the group and gave everyone a lot of attention.

Leaving the room you start the trail. The walk takes you through the woods as you come across many different scenes over about half an hour.

For me there were some clear stand out scenes. The first was an early scene with a clown, there were two actors here and they worked well together managing to deliver scripted sections as well as jump scares from all angles.

Through a few more areas we approached a medical scene. The theming here was great and the doctor’s acting was just right. He worked the space well and was genuinely freaky.

A few more scenes go by and we come across a voodoo scene. I felt that the actors in this section hadn’t quite warmed up yet as their interaction fell a little flat. It’s what followed that made this standout as our group were led into a caravan with the door locked behind us!

Towards the end there was great use of a pre existing maze this was full of clowns who worked the maze well providing scares a plenty. They definitely weren’t afraid to dig into the group picking fun at people going the wrong way.

Final Thoughts

Overall this is a fun event. You’ll want your boots for this one as it can get quite muddy. As well as the set scenes there are obstacles along the way which add to the experience. Most of the scenes are quite minimal so there is a lot of reliance on the actors who really make the event. I like how they aren’t afraid to get shouty and up close as this ramps up the intensity.

I’d recommend checking out this fairly new and lesser known attraction. It was a pleasant surprise. Terror in the Trees runs on select dates through to the 2nd November.
