Edith

As we had a bit of time to kill and thankfully not miles of travelling we made a beeline to Unescapable in Derby for one of their rooms, Edith. We were recommended this escape room from another operator whose game we’d enjoyed recently. Unescapable, for those that have visited are not actually an escape game company, but they are in fact a top secret time travel facility. Unfortunately one of their employees, Edith, had gone missing so we had to travel in time to find out what happened to her.

We were ably assisted by Unescapable’s hosts and GM who both did a great job in welcoming us and going through the usual briefing before we made our way to the room, for the more narrative element. In order to properly access this room, the whole team will need to crawl, but only for this section, not for the room proper.

Upon travelling back in time we ended up in what seemed like an attic of a tailors or a haberdashers, as there was some fabric, buttons, and mannequin-like upper torsos dotted around the place. As we made our way through the puzzles and unraveled more of what happened to Edith. It also wasn’t long until we got some interesting attention from something else in the room, with plenty of spooky effects.

As the room opened up these elements made us jump a few times and helped ratchet up the tension. We can imagine that if you get scared easily, then you may struggle with this room. After successfully finishing off the fun and varied puzzles, one final task and a mad dash for the exit, we emerged victorious. Our only real criticism would be that a combination of the low light for atmospheric reasons coupled with a number of more traditional padlocks made some puzzles due to our aging eyesitenot being easy to see as clearly in the dark.

We had a fun time playing Edith and would easily recommend it if you’re nearby and want a scary escape room experience. Our hosts were superb, really fun, and engaging and were nice enough to give us a quick peek behind the scenes after we’d completed.
