The Seance from Splatterbox is an immersive paranormal themed experience set inside a haunted toy shop. The set itself has been designed to pop up in different locations, we visited at the Caddies Comedy Club in Southend-on-Sea.
The experience lasts for 30 minutes and takes place in a very well themed space. You enter the haunted toy shop with numerous toys scattered around and sit on one of a number of benches either side of the room.
It is here we meet via video link our paranormal investigators. These add a fun comic element to proceedings. As they introduce us to the experience things start to happen using a variety of fun special effects, both physical and technical to create the haunting environment. The scares build nicely throughout the experience though we felt these became a little repetitive towards the end.
The themeing of the room is fantastic with a great use of smell, touch and temperature really immersing all your senses. You really feel like you’re in an old unused toy shop.
Overall this is an enjoyable immersive experience. There are some nice touches throughout that makes it an engaging half hour. Keep your eyes open on the Splatterbox website for any future dates or other locations. One additional thing to note was that the team spoke to the different members of the audience seeking feedback on how they could make the show better. This is great to see and shows that the team are passionate about making the experience as good as it can be.
